HelloFresh Meal #2: Thai Green Curry – A Toddler’s Honest Verdict

If the first meal was a success, this one was... a learning curve. I tried the Thai Green Curry with Butternut Squash, Peas, and Spinach.

The Verdict: My daughter waited until I’d actually left the room, turned to her nan, and said: "Well, that was gross!" Out of the mouths of babes! At least she waited until I was out of earshot to protect my feelings, I guess?

The Spice Factor: I’m glad I was cautious. I only used half the recommended spice mix and added a load of extra coconut milk to cool it down, and it still blew my head off! We ended up piling on the yoghurt just to make it edible for the kids, but it still had a serious kick. Definitely not one for the "child-friendly" list.

The "3-Person" Math Strike Again: Once again, the measurements for three people made zero sense. I ended up using my own tin of coconut milk from the cupboard to just make it a 4-person portion to avoid wasting half-tins and stray veggies. It feels like HelloFresh hasn't quite mastered the odd-number family dynamic yet!

  • Simplicity: 7/10 (Very straightforward to cook but point deducted for having to peel butternut squash!)

  • Taste: 5/10 (It actually got better with each bite as I got used to the heat, but it wasn't my favourite).

  • Look: 2/10 - (It wasn't the nicest of looking curries, which definitely put the kids off before even tasting!)

  • Child-Friendly: 1/10 (Even with all my modifications, it was a no-go for the little ones).

Updated Verdict

Ease

7/10

Simple to follow, but you need your own pantry staples to fix the portions.

Taste

5/10

Dropping some points here. The heat levels are just too inconsistent!

Portion Size

5/10

Without my extra coconut milk, we’d have had a lot of waste.
