The Verdict: A blast from the past (and not the good kind!)

We’ve officially kicked off Week 2 with Gousto! I decided to stay away from the tofu for the first night and went with the Biryani. Honestly? It was like taking a bite of my childhood... and there’s a reason I don't usually cook biryani for myself. It just didn't hit the right notes.

The "Fussy Eater" Report

My daughter was an immediate "no" on sight. After some persuasion, she eventually ate... the rice. Just the rice. My other one was a bit more adventurous and tucked in, and I enjoyed mine—but only after I’d added a serious amount of extra salt (not good for the blood pressure!). It really needed that kick to bring out any semblance of flavour!

The Pros & Cons

  • Simplicity: 9/10. This was even easier than HelloFresh! (To be fair, I didn't have my toddler "sous-chef" helping me this time, which probably saved me 20 minutes and a lot of mess).

  • Flavour: 5/10. It was average. It felt a bit bland and dated.

  • The "No-Yoghurt" Win: I skipped the dairy yoghurt and it didn't suffer for it, though a dollop of my own coconut alternative might have added some needed richness.

The Scorecard

  • Look: 6/10

  • Taste: 5/10

  • Kid-Friendly: 4/10 (Unless your kids only eat plain basmati!)

  • Ease: 9/10
